Swanton designs crane ties for Principal Place

A complex construction site located in the London borough of Hackney, Principal Place involves the multi-staged erection of a tower crane to enable construction of a 155-meter tower. The crane is erected in 6 stages, of which 5 are tied back to the new building.

As conventional crane ties were not suitable due to the distance between the crane and the structure, Multiplex Construction Europe appointed Swanton Consulting to develop structural ties which provided the necessary restraint. The design of the ties takes into account the staged erection of the crane and utilises temporary bridging columns between floor slabs.
