Berners Street and Wells Street

Berners Street and Wells Street

Retention of a 20m long and 13m high façade built in the 1920s. The proposed façade retention scheme supports the existing masonry horizontally and vertically, comprised of a stability tower with trussed wailing beams, spanning between the tower and additional columns.

The stability tower is supported by portal frames set into concrete kentledge blocks on the street-side elevation and plunge columns in bearing piles internally. Additional lateral restraint is provided by flying props linking the truss with the wailer beam connected to the party wall on the South side. The scheme also includes needling systems for supporting the façade during the installation of the new vertical supports.
