Regular Mentoring and CPD Sessions

At Swanton Consulting, we prioritise continuous professional development through structured mentoring and a robust CPD programme. Our graduates benefit from regular one-on-one sessions with Supervising Civil Engineers (SCEs) and Delegated Engineers (DEs), ensuring consistent feedback and personalised development planning throughout their Initial Professional Development (IPD).

Alongside project-based learning, we deliver a formal CPD programme aligned with the requirements of ICE, IStructE, and IDE. All team members are encouraged to maintain detailed CPD records and participate in technical sessions, workshops, and external training—ensuring a minimum of 30+ hours of effective learning annually.

Our CPD offering includes internal and external sessions, lunchtime presentations, and targeted workshops covering a wide range of technical and industry-relevant topics. These sessions are designed to broaden knowledge, reduce design risk, and promote innovation across our engineering teams.

Topics include:

  • Structural design and detailing (e.g. RC detailing, steel-to-steel connections, composite structures)
  • Temporary works and construction methodologies (e.g. façade retention, underpinning, demolition methods, suspended access equipment)
  • Geotechnical and foundation engineering (e.g. piling, anchors to concrete, ground movement)
  • Historical and heritage structures (e.g. masonry wall defects, party walls, historical construction)
  • Materials and innovation (e.g. concrete admixtures, reuse of steel, precast concrete)
  • Professional skills and project delivery (e.g. contracts, tendering, report writing, project management)
